“In the Shadow of the Sphinx!” is a c-fold / tri-fold encounter designed for one session’s play. The characters are exploring a section of the Sphinx, which is essentially a five room dungeon.
The product is designed to be used as a psuedo GM screen, with the player facing content (character creation and artwork) on one side of the page, and the GM facing content (rules and encounter) on the other.
Originally the plan had been to create a series of these all with the name “In the Shadow of…” but I veered off from that idea whilst creating this.
Mechanically the encounter is powered by a hack of the vs. Monsters system created by Philip Reed. Instead of a deck of cards, which runs from 1 to 13 (including suits), I wanted the players to have a higher change of succeeding due to the pulp-ish feel of the adventure. So I opted for 2d8.
